As I sit here and write this post, the snow is falling outside, blanketing the street for about the hundredth time in the last few weeks. Winter in Wisconsin can be a cruel b!tch, but thankfully Porter’s exist to help us get through it.
To help me through this latest storm, I decided to grab a Door County Polka King Porter and a Founders Porter for a duel. I’ve had the Founders Porter before, and always thought good things. The Polka King is new to me, but I know the brewer fairly well. Let’s see how it goes.

Considering their description as dark, rich & sexy, I’m surprised porters aren’t more popular with women! Jokes aside, these were a couple solid beers. I don’t believe either will top my list of favorites, but in a pinch they’ll both get the job done. They were close in each category, but the Polka King gets the win because the malty finish, with hints of chocolate and caramel, satisfied my palate better.
