Can’t say I’ve had many Brown Ales in my day, so when I saw City Lights Brown Ale, I was intrigued. I’m spoiled by solid brewers in the Milwaukee area, and City Lights just happens to be another one that calls area code 414 home.
Searching for an opponent, I came across a Brown Ale from a brewer I was unfamiliar with, Cigar City Brewing based in Tampa, Florida. Never one to pass on the opportunity to sample a new brewer, the Maduro quickly found it’s way into my pack. Let’s see how things shape up.

Well it’s safe to say I’m a fan of Brown Ales! Each brew worked well with my taste buds, going down smooth and delicious. What set the City Lights Brown Ale apart was a richer body, and slightly more flavorful finish.
These beers were strikingly similar, which makes me wonder if there’s anything more creative working in this sub sect of the Ale category. I’m curious enough to keep looking, more to come.
