I have to admit, I was really looking forward to this one. This seemed like a complete clash of flavors that both fall under the Lager category. I haven’t had a black lager before and the idea of a dark and rich lager is very appealing to me, so I’m particularly looking forward to the Baba Black Lager.
The duel’s opponent is a tropical lager, that I also haven’t had before, but sounds interesting. For some reason I picture it tasting like a rum punch, but maybe the word tropical is just throwing me off. It’s still beer after all…right? Let’s find out.

I appreciated both of these brews, but found the Stone Tropic of Thunder worked a little better with my palate. The “tropics” really presented themselves in a refreshing fruity aroma, but the taste wasn’t overly fruity, more of your standard lager with a smooth, crisp finish. On the flip side, the Uinta Baba Black Lager wasn’t bad, but couldn’t stand up to it’s opponent in anything but packaging. In the end it was a good duel of very different tastes within the same category.
